Welcome to the top of Vermont.
At the highest point on Route 242 there is a parking lot and the Jay Peak trail head across the street. It's 1.7 miles to hike up the Long Trail to the summit, including rocky scrambles, a mixed forest and a steep last stretch that spits out onto a ski trail. The summit is bare rocks with a 360° view of Mount Mansfield, Lake Champain, The White Mountains and Canada. Grab a snack and drink at the Sky Haus Deli (restrooms available) before climbing back down or continuing out to Big Jay.
