Scenic Drives


There are many ways to have fun in the car while taking in the scenery.

Crank the tunes on your favorite playlist or press play on your next podcast episode. Engage your family in a game of iSpy or tally up how many different states’ license plates you spot along your journey.

The saying is true: it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey – and we wholeheartedly believe that in the Northeast Kingdom. Everywhere you drive can be considered a scenic drive, but we have helped map out some of the “most-epic” spots to travel inside the Kingdom.

From scenic byways to quaint back roads, and even a list of popular covered bridges, all that’s left for you to do is pack a bag and fuel up your car!

Northeast Kingdom Byway

Take a journey along this 51-mile byway exploring the communities of Saint Johnsbury, Lyndon, East and West Burke, Westmore, Charleston, Derby and Newport. Get NEKed and enjoy miles of stunning views with plenty of stops to enjoy area recreation.

Northeast Kingdom Covered Bridges

Take in the history and scenery of the Kingdom as you tour the covered bridges of our region. There are many covered bridges in the Northeast Kingdom, offering scenic photo and selfie stops, learning opportunities and memories. Go off the beaten path and into the soul of the Kingdom!

Chamberlin Mill Covered Bridge Lyndon, VT

Located in Lyndon Corner on Mill Street crossing the South Wheelock Branch of the Passumpsic River. Built in 1881 and updated in 2002.

Miller’s Run Covered BridgeLyndon Center, VT

Located in Lyndon Center on Route 122 crossing Miller’s Run. Built in 1878 and updated in 1995.

Randall Covered Bridge Lyndonville, VT

Located in the town of Lyndonville on Burrington Bridge Road crossing the East Branch of the Passumpsic River. Built in 1865 and restored in 2008.

Schoolhouse Covered BridgeLyndon, VT

Located in Lyndon Corner on the South Wheelock Road crossing the South Wheelock Branch of the Passumpsic River. Built in 1879.

Columbia Covered Bridge Lemington, VT

Located in the town of Lemington on Route 102 crossing the Connecticut River. Built in 1912 and rehabilitated in 1981.

Island Pond Covered Footbridge Brighton, VT

Located in the town of Brighton on the North Junction of SR105 and SR114 crossing the railroad tracks. Built in 2003.

Mount Orne Covered Bridge – Lunenburg, VT

Located in the town of Lunenburg on East Concord Road crossing the Connecticut River. Built in 1911 and rehabilitated in 1983.


Coventry Covered Bridge Irasburg, VT

Located in the town of Irasburg on Coventry Road crossing the Black River. Built in 1881 and rebuilt in 1999.

Greenbanks Hollow BridgeDanville, VT

Located in the town of Danville on Town Highway 56 crossing Joe’s Brook. Built in the early 1800s burned in 1885 and rebuilt in 1886. Rebuilt in 2006.
